When you think of dangerous vehicles, a garbage truck is probably not one of the first ones to come to mind. The truth is that these machines lead to injuries and deaths each year in California and across the country. There are several different ways that you can be hurt or killed by garbage trucks, and we at E and E Law Group work to make sure you are compensated to the fullest amount possible in the event of an accident.
The Office of Safety and Health Administration reports that, during the year 2016, four employees were killed when they were run over by a garbage truck. Five more were reported to be killed when they were struck by a garbage truck, but not necessarily run over. There were also other incidents that were less frequent, but resulted in deaths. These include people killed by the garbage compactor, those who were pinned between the truck and a wall and those who were crushed by the tailgate of the truck
In addition to dangers caused while driving and operating the truck, there was also one incident when a housing compartment fell on top of the garbage truck and killed someone inside. Falling construction debris can also be dangerous and took one life in 2016.
In most cases, those who are killed by garbage trucks are employees who are operating the truck or working nearby. For more information on the dangers that working with big trucks presents and what you can be compensated for, visit our web page.
